RAF
Museum Cosford - 14th July
2008
After
spending the morning (a blank)
in LFA7, we decided it was
time to call it quits when
we were no longer able to
see the car park below due
to the cloud that had rolled
in! We bailed to the RAF Museum
at Cosford - the first time
Skippy had been there.
We
started off in the excellent
'Test Flight' Hall, home to
some real gems, such as the
Avro 707, Bristol Type 188,
the BAC TSR2, amongst many
other rare and in some cases
unique types.

Through
the door into the adjoining
building lay the War Planes
display, featuring historically
significant British, German,
American, Japanese and Argentinian
aircraft types.

The
newest addition to the Cosford
site is the purpose built
Cold War display. Whilst it's
great to see everything protected
from the elements, it's all
but impossible to get clear,
unobstructed photos of any
of the inhabitants. A further
gantry level would've afforded
a better perspective on the
collection, in particular
those hanging from the ceiling.

Finally,
Hangar 1 plays host to airliners
and RAF transport and trainer
aircraft.

There's
no two ways about it, Cosford
is home to a quite superb
collection of important aircraft,
in the main well positioned
and photographable. There
are a few notable exceptions,
however, but considering entry
is free, it's very hard to
be too critical.
