Duxford
- 13/07/2008
With
the cancellation of RIAT and
with the Turkish arriving
promptly at Mildenhall, the
plan for the afternoon was
to visit Duxford for Flying
Legends '08.
As
always with Legends there
was a superb mix of propeller
driven types on display.

Without
doubt the star of the show
was B-17G "Liberty Belle",
who had made the journey across
the pond from its home base
in the USA.

As
is traditional with Flying
Legends shows, the culmination
of the show sees a massed
flypast known as the Balbo,
and named in honour of the
Italian General of the same
name who flew across the Atlantic
in formation with more than
twenty seaplanes in the 1930s.

The
show was not completely without
incident, as P-51D "Miss
Helen" suffered engine
problems whilst landing, resulting
in some damage to the undercarriage.
As
we walked back to the car,
the Catalina returned to its
home and it was captured crossing
the M11.
