RAF
Marham - 08/03/2007
With
the GR variant of the Tornado
reaching 25 years in RAF service,
IX(B) Sqn at RAF Marham -
the first squadron to be equipped
with the GR.1 model on 6th
January 1982, held a Media
Day to formally unveil their
special 25th Anniversary marked
aircraft.
With
Gill Howie and Berry Vissers
of Squadron
Prints otherwise engaged,
myself and Martin Keen were
honoured to be asked to go
along on their behalf to collect
the detailed shots that they
require for their upcoming
print of the special.

Above,
Wing Commander David Waddington,
OC IX(B) Sqn stands proudly
next to his squadron's new
flagship jet.
During
a low-level sortie as part
of Operation Granby, Dave's
Tornado was shot down and
he was captured, spending
more than six weeks as a POW
in Iraq.
Following
our time in the IX(B) Sqn
HAS site, we were ushered
to the runway 24 threshold
where we were able to witness
a pair of Tornadoes recovering
from this seldom photographed
vantage point
I'd
like to extend my sincere
thanks to Group Captain Osborn,
Officer Commanding RAF Marham,
Wing Commander Waddington,
all of the MCO staff at Marham
and to Gill and Berry for
giving us the opportunity.
