Las
Vegas - McCarran, NV, USA
- 26/01/2008
With
the weekend free for relaxing
around LV, and the forecast
for heavy rain on the Sunday,
where we spent Saturday was
a no-brainer!
We
started off in the dedicated
viewing area which is positioned
just about perfectly for touchdown
shots. You are shooting through
a fence though, so it's imperative
that you shoot on a fast shutter,
large aperture setup, otherwise
it'll be visible in your pictures.

Just
before lunch we decided to
go for a drive round, but
in the absence of anywhere
more suitable to park up we
retreated to the long-stay
car park at the airport, from
where we shot off the roof
for an hour or so. Unfortunately
the wind direction dictated
that rotations were happening
well past the interesting
sights on the Strip.

Somewhat
frustrated and with the hope
of catching the early afternoon
Virgin Lump, we headed back
to the viewing area.

It
wasn't until the evening that
we discovered that Vegas was
playing host to the Miss America
contest that evening, but
doubtless the influx of biz
later in the afternoon had
some connection to that.

With
the light now fading, a local
told us that a Philippines
A340 was due, so we hung around
and waited for that, catching
a couple of specials while
we did so.

We
decided to call it a day at
this point. I don't think
I've ever taken more civvy
shots than I did this day!
Great location and great variety!
Thoroughly enjoyable way to
lose a day.
